This week my co-worker and friend is out of town on vacation so I am left behind to hold down the fort. Friday of last week was actually day one, but I prefer to forget that particular day as it was hell. Well, the evening wasn’t – the evening was this totally hilarious bit of the day made even more hilarious by the fact that I hadn’t laughed all day.
Last Friday evening I attended the 22nd annual “Mr. Chillicothe” contest sponsored by the Chillicothe Lions Club. I help in a lot of the preparations for this contest by typing up the letters and mailing things out as a part of my duties at work. Most years only a portion of the contestants show up – usually the older ones but this year.. all nine made an appearance and boy, oh boy were they acting up for the crowd.
The business suit contest saw everything from the Park District manager wearing shorts and a polo shirt to the young men sporting some nice, funky plaid pants with suit jackets… do some of the middle-aged men wearing pants that (they claim) fit in 6th grade and ties made for 5 year olds.
The contestants are encouraged to bring items to auction off – and so they did. Items ranged from pool passes to buckets of alcohol and t-shirts to, and this was my personal favorite, a date with one of the contestants. Yes, he auctioned himself off… and got $85.00 donated to the Lions Club as a result of it.
All in all it was a fun night and the Lions Club raised over $2500 towards it’s scholarship and eyeglasses program.
But now it’s Monday, and I’m headed back from lunch – so I’ll wrap this up. I’ll be sure to surface every now and then this week and post an update so you folks all know that I haven’t drowned under paperwork.
