March of the Penguins (Movie Review)

(This is for the Gilmore Girls Mini-Challenge hosted by BookJourney)

March of the Penguins is one of those movies I saw previewed before it came out in 2005 and all I could think was.. “Really? Who’s going to sit and watch that?”  Not exactly one of those movies full of action and adventure – and frankly, listening to Morgan Freeman (as much as I appreciate the guy)  for 85 minutes isn’t exactly my idea of a fun time.  How foolish was I?

Last night as I was working on some reviews I started up this movie on my Netflix instant play.  I was almost immediately drawn in and fascinated by the story being told.  The beauty of these Penguins was astounding and the challenges they face (Would YOU go four months without eating to protect your child?) incredible.  I was reminded of how amazing God is.  Everything the Emperor  Penguins do is a small miracle in an of itself.  From the incredible journey they face in brutal temperatures to the identification methods they use.  A beautiful story and I’m grateful to this challenge for finally getting me to stop putting it off and actually watch the movie.

Now, then, let’s not have any Morgan Freeman hate around here. Can’t think of a better narrating voice. And yeah, it is a fantastic little film. Worth the full 85 minutes.

Well.. no hate! Not at all. His voice just puts me to sleep. I think he’s fantastic. However, I do not fall asleep when Patrick Stewart narrates!
