Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

When I sat down to read this book I was fooled by the slimness of the book. Tuck Everlasting is a 139 page, short read that packs an incredible punch.

When I read this book I felt like I should have been sitting out on a porch, lemonade in hand. Time slowed down and, despite savoring every page, the book ended too quickly. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting and I know that I would never have imagined this to be the story (and I have never seen the movie.. so everything was a surprise).

It’s funny how with just a few words painting a picture of the home and actions of a person their character is immediately determined. I knew the strange man wasn’t to be trusted right off the bat, just as I knew I would love the Tucks. I knew what sort of boys their sons were and what sort of man Tuck himself was. I felt like I knew their history because they had always just..been that way.

To have all of that packed into so few pages is something of an accomplishment. The story came to life for me instantly. And the ending was perfect, because who in their right mind would ignore advice from a man like Angus Tuck?

Friday: Week in Review

What  a week this has been!  So many things happened this week and were the cause of much busyness in my life.

  • Last Saturday we had Grace’s Fifth birthday party at Monkey Joe’s.  We had a blast, enjoyed a beautiful cake (and even I got a piece!), shared lots of laughter and, in general, experienced everything a birthday party was supposed to be.  And the best part?  I didn’t have to do any clean-up!
  • This week has been somewhat crazy as we’ve prepared to have Grace and Cole’s mom come and visit.  She arrived last night, which means I now get a few days in which I can do some “me” things, which includes typing this up at my local Starbucks and finally getting that time to get caught up on reviews and reading.
  • I got a few new books in this week – but unfortunately I don’t have them sitting here.  I also picked up about twenty books from the library – and my diminishing pile is now back to full height.
  • I’ve really been enjoying reading some Manga between heavier books (although I have to admit, that Gregor series was fantastic and I was skipping some manga reading so I could move on to the next book fast, fast, fast!)
  • This upcoming week promises to be.. nothing special, and I’m thrilled about that.  I’m more than ready for things to settle down again, at least for a few weeks, and for me to, again, be enjoying life in the manner that I like it.

What was your week like?  Did you have anything exciting happen?
