In honor of Book Blogger Appreciation Week I’ve decided to go ahead and list up what I think is a fantastic giveaway.  Last weekend was the fabulous Dragon*Con and during this amazing event I was fortunate enough to meet the talented, lovely Cherie Priest.

BBAW First Treasure – Unputdownables

Book Bloggers Appreciation Week is this week!  In honor of this great week, the folks over at BBAW have given us topics to do for every day of the week.

This being Monday we’re kicking off with the following:
We invite you to share with us about a great new book blog you’ve discovered since BBAW last year!  If you are new to BBAW or book blogging, share with us the very first book blog you discovered.  Tell us why this blog rocks your socks off and why you keep going back for more.
I started book blogging less than a year ago.  In that time period I have come across some fantastic blogs.  But one of my most favorite blogs I only rediscovered a short few months ago.  In that time period it has climbed to the top of my “favorites” list and is one of the blogs I check every single day for new posts.
Wallace at Unputdownables provides content on a regular basis that is thoughtful, well-prepared and interesting.  Everything from chatting about her new Nook to providing reviews of such fantastic books as 84 Charing Cross Road can be found on her book blog.  The blog itself is neat, clean and easy to navigate and she regularly participates in discussions through her comments which is something I love.

Plus her blog name simply rocks.

If you haven’t checked her out, I highly recommend you do so.  I’m positive once you do that she will be added to that list of favorites you have yourself and, like me, you will keep going back for more.

It’s Monday, what are you reading?

Sheila from One Person’s Journey through a World of Books hosts this meme and I love to participate in it! Head on over and check out her blog and the great participants there.

While you are here, be sure to check out the new tab up there at the top titled Entwife Read-Alongs! Our September book has been chosen and a page set up dedicated to it (along with a summary of our August book!).

I did better this week with my reading!  This week.. I’m dreading due to some papers I have to write, but I think I’m developing a good system to just get reading done.  I’m an emotional wreck if I can’t read for pleasure so I’m learning the importance of just setting aside some time to read.

  2. The Day the Flowers Died by Ami Rebecca Blackwelder

Short Summary:

Thirty years ago, teenager Rebecca Underhill and her twin sister Molly were abducted by a man who lived in a house in the woods behind their upstate New York farm. They were held inside that house for three horrifying hours, until making their daring escape.

Vowing to keep their terrifying experience a secret in order to protect their mother and father, the girls tried to put the past behind them. And when their attacker was hunted down by police and sent to prison, they believed he was as good as dead.

Now, it’s 30 years later, and with Molly having passed away from cancer, Rebecca, a painter and art teacher, is left alone to bear the burden of a secret that has only gotten heavier and more painful with each passing year.

My Review:

I knew just looking at the cover of this book that it would be creepy so would someone please explain to me why I would decide to pick it up after the sun had gone down?

I raced through this book. Once I’d started there was no going back (and thankfully it’s short enough to handle in one setting).

While the plot was a bit predictable and there were some editing bloops the main story had enough “thriller” in it to keep me interested and biting at my nails (although not in the same way Michael bites his).

One aspect of the book that was great was the holding off and leaving it to our imagination that Zandri does with Rebecca and Molly’s story. Instead of getting everything laid out in front of you he builds the story up and that alone will keep you turning the pages.

Now, I am going to see if I can manage sleep tonight. One thing is certain – I’ll be turning off my cell phone before I try!
