Summary from GoodReads:
Two Feuding Families
Amber Jardin has no taste for the bitter feud started before her father’s banishment. But now that he’s passed, she’s had to return to Scotland and his barbaric people. After her bloodthirsty uncle kidnaps one of the family’s rivals, Amber is in turn captured by Krayne Johnstone, the enemy laird. Despite their enmity, their attraction is immediate—and unfortunate, as Amber has sworn to escape.
One Lusty Temptation
Krayne is amazed at the wildcat’s repeated attempts to flee. He should steel himself against her beguiling ways—yet with time, he is driven more witless with lust. When the ransom exchange fails and Krayne is left with Amber, he finds he cannot tolerate the thought of her with another man—and she cannot tolerate the thought of returning to her uncle’s home.
Will passion and love win out over mistrust and betrayal in time to prevent an all-out war?
My Review:
I want to take a moment and talk about the label “historical romance”. Why? Because that label is what drew me in to this book. Now, there’s historical romance Diana Gabaldon style – which is sweeping, beautiful romance and a story that’s lasted beyond the pages of a single book, and there’s historical romance Eloisa James and Karen Marie Moning style – which is hot, heavy, and full of corset-ripping.
So I picked up this book hoping it would be the former – but what I got was the latter. However, don’t take that for disappointment, because overall.. for being what it was, I wasn’t disappointed. Seriously, this book pulled back and forth and back and forth so many times I thought I’d get whiplash of the brain and never be free of emotional turmoil. Amber is feisty, spirited and beautiful, everything you can wish for in a novel about romance. And the Scottish men… ooooh boy – let me just say that this book only can do the Scotland tourist business nothing but good favors. I found myself wistfully thinking of kilts, the beautiful Scottish accents and muscled Highland men with a whisper of a sigh when I finished reading the story.
I don’t read a whole lot of romance anymore. I used to love these kind of books, but even after reading only one or two a year (at my current rate), it’s easy to see the pattern in the story. So not a whole lot of a surprise, but a lot of heat, fun characters and a storyline that had a bit more substance then is the norm.
