Summary from GoodReads:

The Andreas family is one of readers. Their father, a renowned Shakespeare professor who speaks almost entirely in verse, has named his three daughters after famous Shakespearean women. When the sisters return to their childhood home, ostensibly to care for their ailing mother, but really to lick their wounds and bury their secrets, they are horrified to find the others there. See, we love each other. We just don’t happen to like each other very much. But the sisters soon discover that everything they’ve been running from-one another, their small hometown, and themselves-might offer more than they ever expected.

My Review:

I adored this book – most particularly, I adored Rose.  I could identify with Rose, being the eldest of six girls in my own family.  I felt her pain, her insecurities and I wanted to step into this story created by Eleanor Brown and comfort her.  She came to life for me.

The Weird Sisters is chock full of Shakespeare, sibling rivalry and love, tragedy surrounding the illness of a loved one and more.  It’s about relationships, not just those between sisters, but also between parents and loved ones.  It’s about forgiveness and learning to live with one another and it’s a story that rang true on every single level.

Sometimes I read to escape, sometimes I read for fun and sometimes I read to validate my own emotions, to let me know that what I feel is also present in someone else’s mind.  Rose made me feel like less of abnormality and I loved that character as a result.

I highly recommend this book, if you haven’t given into the hype and already read it.  Thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to put it on the yearly rereads list.

Wow, this sounds wonderful! I’ve had my eye on it since I first started seeing it pop up in review publications. I wasn’t sure if it was loosely based on a Shakespeare play or not but I want to read it anyway. Great review!
