So I picked up the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud a few weeks ago and just finished reading the third book today. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the first book did get me hooked rather quickly. A few thoughts on the series as a whole:

I found it difficult to really like John Mandrake, one of the main characters. He’s just a kid throughout the books, but he seems to fall apart more and more as a likeable character.

Loved the witty comments in footnotes by Bartimaeus – but found they were a little distracting a times.

Story-wise, the second book was my favorite. It just flowed very easily for me and out of all three I found it the hardest to put down.

I’d recommend picking up the series and checking it out if you want some fun stuff to read through. It’s definitely not Harry Potter, but fun reading regardless.
